Scope
This policy explains what personal data this site collects, why, on what legal basis, who it’s shared with, and what you can do about it. It applies to experiencingtheglobe.com and to the newsletter.
What’s collected
- Data you give me: your email address and name when you subscribe to the newsletter; your name, email, website, and comment text when you comment; anything you include in a message sent through the contact form.
- Data collected automatically: IP address, browser type and version, device and operating system, referring URL, pages visited, time and duration of visit, and approximate location derived from IP.
- Cookies and similar technologies: see the cookies section below.

Cookies and similar technologies
Strictly necessary cookies keep the site working and can’t be switched off. Other cookies and similar technologies used for analytics, advertising, affiliate tracking, and social media content are only used where you have given the required consent.
You can accept or reject non-essential cookies when you first visit. If you change your mind, you can reopen your consent preferences and update your choices at any time. Rejecting is as easy as accepting, and rejecting non-essential cookies won’t stop you using the site. Your choice is remembered for six months, after which you might be asked again.
You can also delete or block cookies through your browser settings, and opt out of third-party cookies via the relevant provider’s own controls.

- Buy Me a Coffee – payment processing for reader tips.
- Social platforms (Facebook/Meta, Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube) – embeds, share buttons, and pixels where enabled.
Each of these processes data under its own privacy policy. I don’t sell your personal data.
International transfers
Some of these providers process data outside the European Economic Area, mainly in the United States. Where required, transfers are based on an applicable adequacy decision, such as the EU–US Data Privacy Framework where the recipient is certified, or on appropriate safeguards such as Standard Contractual Clauses.
How long data is kept
- Newsletter data: until you unsubscribe, then deleted within 30 days.
- Comments and their metadata: retained indefinitely so conversation threads stay readable, and deleted on request.
- Contact form and email correspondence: around 2 years from last contact.
- Analytics data: retained for 14 months in Google Analytics.
- Server logs: per Lyrical Host’s standard retention practice (typically around 30 days).
Your rights
If you’re in the EEA or the UK, you can: access your data; correct it; have it deleted; restrict or object to processing; receive it in a portable format; and withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing already carried out.
To exercise any of these, email info@experiencingtheglobe.com. I’ll respond within one month. If a request is complex, that can be extended by a further two months, and I’ll tell you if that happens.
No automated decision-making or profiling with legal or similarly significant effects takes place on this site.
If you think your data has been mishandled, you can complain to the Croatian Personal Data Protection Agency (AZOP), Selska cesta 136, 10000 Zagreb, azop@azop.hr, azop.hr – or to your own national supervisory authority. In the UK, that’s the ICO (ico.org.uk).
US state privacy rights
If you’re a California resident, you may have the right to know what personal information is collected, to delete it, to correct it, to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and to limit the use of sensitive personal information. Residents of other US states may have additional privacy rights under applicable state law.
Advertising and analytics cookies may constitute “sharing” under California law. You can opt out through the cookie settings link, and browser-level opt-out signals such as Global Privacy Control are honored. To make a request, email info@experiencingtheglobe.com. You won’t be discriminated against for exercising these rights.
Brazil (LGPD)
If you’re in Brazil, you have rights of confirmation, access, correction, anonymization, portability, deletion, and information about data sharing. Contact info@experiencingtheglobe.com, or the ANPD (gov.br/anpd).
Children
This site isn’t directed at children. I don’t knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16 in the EU, or under 13 in the United States. If you believe a child has provided personal data, email info@experiencingtheglobe.com and it’ll be deleted.
Special categories of data
Please don’t send sensitive personal data – health information, political opinions, religious beliefs, racial or ethnic origin, trade union membership, biometric data, or government identifiers – through comments, the contact form, or email. There’s no need for it, and none is requested.
Security
Reasonable technical and organizational measures protect the data collected here, including HTTPS across the site, access controls, and regular malware scanning. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, and absolute security can’t be guaranteed. In the event of a personal data breach likely to result in a risk to your rights, I’ll notify AZOP within 72 hours and, where the risk is high, notify affected users directly.
Changes to this policy
This policy may be updated. Material changes will be announced on this page with a revised date, and where required, by email to subscribers.
